- Fuel Cell Scooter

PRO-POWER has initiated a joint development with S&T motors, a motorbike manufacturer in South Korea in 2007 for the next generation of two wheel vehicles using 1kW
DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) and 1kWh Lithium Polymer battery technologies. The vehicle, namedas Scoophin, is currently under testing phase making sure that it meets the performance requirement and safety standards under various environment factors.

While EVs (Electric Vehicles) requires to charge the battery units using the grid power Scoophin uses methanol as fuel to generate electricity managed by EMS (Energy Management System) with data-log functionality for communication and monitoring/charging system (state-of-charge readings, estimate time/distance remaining, the flow of current into and out of the battery, thermal management control, power generation from DMFC).

Description of the Problem

  • Increased use of the grid power to charge the battery

Benefit of Scoophin

  1. No need for wall-plugging battery charger or charging station
  2. Eliminate the immense cost to renew the infra-structure for power distribution line.
  3. EMS (Energy Management System) with data-log functionality for communication and monitoring/charging system (state-of-charge readings, estimate time/distance remaining, the flow of current into and out of the battery, thermal management control, power generation from DMFC)
  4. Contribute to lower carbon-footprint and no hazardous material to the environment.

- Fuel Cell Forklift

The idea of environmentally friendly electric vehicles mayseem like a future trend but it has been going on for decades. It is expected that in the near future they will become as mainstream as the microwave oven because of their enormous potential to help our environment as well as reduce our dependence upon gasoline. The Environmental Protection Agency says half the nation lives where air quality is designated “unhealthy” at some time in the year. Fortunately, electric vehicles can contribute to a cleaner environment. Electric lift trucks offer an advantage to businesses whose products are sensitive to heat or emissions, such as those in the food industry.

PRO-POWER has initiated a joint development with Soosung Co. in Korea to develop a hybrid power system for electric fork-lift vehicles that utilize 1kW DMFC (Direct Methanol Fucel Cell) and 5.8kWh Li-Polymer battery system. The system is currently being tested under various safety requirements and load conditions.

  • Polluted air may cause serious harm to people and goods when operated indoor. Increased use of the grid power to charge the battery using conventional systems in heavy duty vehicles.

Benefit of SS Drive

- Fuel Cell Wheel Chair

Power wheelchairs are used predominantly by people with both lower and upper extremity impairments resulting from cerebral palsy, high-level spinal cord injury, or muscular dystrophy. Deep discharge wet and gel electrolyte, lead-acid batteries are the standard power source for nearly 100,000 users of powered wheelchairs only because they are inexpensive. However the lead-acid batteries lose charging efficiency, decreases performance (capacity and peak power delivery), and shorten battery life. Furthermore most power indicators for wheelchair batteries are simple voltmeters. However, voltmeters based monitors are at best inaccurate and at worst misleading indicators of remaining battery capacity.

PRO-POWER has developed a power system adapting DMFC (Direct Methanol Fuel Cell) and Lithium Polymer technology integrated with EMS (energy management system). The system allows extended travel range in one charge and life cycle addressing all problems stated above and permanently eliminatesthe need for wall-plugging battery charging. DMFC system generates electricity by combining oxygen and hydrogen gas extracted from methanol fuel. The generated power is, then, stored in the Lithium polymer battery system allowing access for power wheelchair operation.
